INEWSBC | The women’s action for developing ward has launched the #MyPeriodIsAwesome project under the #TaxFreePeriodNam initiative to create accessibility of sanitary pads for women and girls.
The project was launched after a study conducted showing that 17% of girls receive or have access to sanitary pads in Namibia.
The #TaxFreePeriodNam was created to make sanitary pads cheaper as they are costly with a 15% tax reduction, and to make enable women and girls to buy sanitary pads tax-free.
The project has visited various schools in Windhoek to create awareness on this initiative, education on the menstrual cycle and sexual production.
This project is aimed at exempting VAT from sanitary products, and also hopes in ending period shame.
